EHR Heavy-Hitters to Be First Class of Vendors to Implement Data Exchange Principles Set by the Sequoia Project
Since its launch just over a month ago, The Sequoia Project has been incredibly successful. The Project has already signed up five health IT heavy-hitters to be the first to implement its data exchange principles: athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Epic, NextGen, and Surescripts.
According to The Sequoia Project officials, these early implementers will first focus on query-based exchange of clinical documents and will eventually expand to use other cases. They will soon benefit from faster, less expensive data sharing agreements since “they no longer need to develop one-off legal agreements between individual partners.”
The Sequoia Project commits these organizations to the rules of the road to help simplify “system-to-system connections to make data exchange easier for a large portion of the healthcare ecosystem.”
Global Healthcare IT is incredibly impressed with the way these companies have started working together to compliment each other’s strengths. Epic and athenahealth are both working with the Carequality framework, which is a testament to healthcare vendors’ commitment toward making interoperability a reality for patients and providers alike.
