Global EHR Market To Reach $22.3B by End of 2015, Report Estimates

The global electronic health record market is expected to reach $22.3 billion by the end of next year, according to a recent report from AccentureHealth Data Management reports.

 

Report Details

For the report, researchers analyzed hospital-based EHR markets in:

  • Australia;
  • Brazil;
  • Canada;
  • France;
  • Germany;
  • Japan;
  • The Nordics;
  • Spain;
  • The United Kingdom; and
  • The U.S. (Slabodkin, Health Data Management, 3/3).

Report Findings

The report found that the worldwide EHR market is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 5.5% through 2015 (Walsh, Clinical Innovation & Technology, 3/3).

Specifically, by the end of 2015 EHR markets will grow to a projected:

  • $4 billion in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • $7.1 billion in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and
  • $11.1 billion in the Americas (Health Data Management, 3/3).

According to the report, the U.S. EHR market is expected to remain the largest in the world, growing by 7.1% annually to $9.3 billion by 2015 (Clinical Innovation & Technology, 3/3).  

The report noted that the biggest drivers of U.S. EHR market growth are:

  • Consolidation; and
  • Meaningful use attestation.

Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments (Health Data Management, 3/3).
