Tableau Software Plays a Big Role in Healthcare

The use of big data (a term used to describe data sets so complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate) in healthcare is predicted to become a big business.  The reason for this rapid growth is because new players in data analytics have started assisting providers and accountable care organizations effectively using data to bring their business operations to its full potential.

Did you know that more than 70% of a typical patient’s permanent medical record consists of clinical laboratory and laboratory test data?   Pathologists and medical laboratory scientists have a stake in the growth of big-data analytics, which is certainly a main component in healthcare’s journey toward personalized medicine.

Tableau Software has been a major key in the industry growth.  The goal of this software is to make data understandable to ordinary people.

According to Modern Healthcare “Tableau claims its software can build a data dashboard in eight minutes or less and can combine data from different data sources with a quick drag and drop.”

The development officers have said Tableau has “turned the business analyst into a hero.” In 2014 a survey found that Tableau Software was the most commonly used data-visualization software among 1,800 respondents, with 20% of currently using the product and another 20% planning to use it in the future.

Tableau also offers a free tool known as Tableau Public.  According to a review done by Dark Daily [a site dedicated to Clinical Laboratory and Pathology news and trends], Tableau Public enables anyone to connect to a spreadsheet or file and create interactive charts and graphs, maps, live dashboards, and other data visualizations for the Web.
