Epic MyChart and Telehealth

Epic Systems is now partnering with Boston-based American Well in launching a new application to allow virtual visits.  The visits will be available directly through Epic MyChart.  Patients will be able to schedule virtual appointments or request virtual visits.  This will help hospitals provide a more accessible level of care.

According to American Well, their annual consumer survey found that two-thirds of responders are willing to receive care via telemedicine but only 8% have utilized the resource.  Consumers, mainly in the age range 45-64, are also more likely to switch to a primary care provider who offer virtual appointments and visits. Working alongside Epic will help make telemedicine more accessible and fit in with the workflow.  Using telehealth will also help support patient engagement and self-management.

Both Epic Systems and American Well will continuously move forward to make healthcare more accessible.
